Wanted: The Perfect Pet

The book we are blogging about today is called Wanted: The Perfect Pet, by Fiona Roberson, it is for grades twos and threes. I can make lots of connections to this book like text to self, text to text, text to world, and text to media. I can make this connection to myself because right now I really want a hamster but I can’t have one just like the boy in the book. This book reminds me of the book “Martha Speaks” because the duck can talk in the book and in “Martha Speaks” the dog, Martha, can speak. This book also reminds me of the world because lots of people want something but don’t get exactly what they want. The book reminds me of a TV show I watched, it was called “Dog With A Blog” and that dog was perfect friends with the kids.

After The Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again

The book we are reading about today is called “After The Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again”, the author and illustrator is Dan Santat. I have read this book before and I can make many connections to it. The fist connection I can make is by text to self. This book reminds me of myself when I was rock climbing because it was a automatic belay wall and I was a little scared to jump off it. After I did the first scary jump it was fun after and I was climbing the walls just to jump off them. The second connection I can make is by text to text. Obviously this book matches up with the poem. I can connect this book to the world because Donald Trump is wanting to build a wall between Mexico and the USA and I wonder what is on the other side of the wall in that story.

The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors And Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract

The book we are making connections to today is called “The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors And Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract. The book is about a boy who could hear colors but nobody liked his art. The first connection I can make to this book is by text to self. This book reminds me of myself because I love to paint and do art just like Kandinsky does. I can connect this book to another book, “Van Gogh”. The book “Van Gogh is about a man who did very colorful art and nobody liked it just like Kandinsky’s art. This book reminds me of the world because there are many different types of art all over the world and some of them are very abstract. Also, I can connect this book to the media because on the internet I can always see so many different types of art. This book interested me a lot because of all the interesting types of art.

There

The book we are reading today is called “There”, it is written and illustrated by Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick, it is written for Grades twos and threes. This book connects to me and the world in many ways. First of all, I can connect this book to myself. A few times in the book the little person was kind of talking a little bit about the future, sometimes I wonder about that too and what the world will be like. Secondly, this book also reminds me of another book, I forget the name but the other book was about monsters and a boy living in another world. Also, this book reminds me of the world because the places in the book called “there” are a little bit like different places in the world. This book reminds me of the media because there are lots of things we don’t know about the future.

Wangari’s Trees of Peace: A True Story From Africa

The book we are blogging about today is called “Wangari’s Trees of Peace: A True Story From Africa.” This book is about a woman who planted trees all over Africa to make a difference. I can relate this book to myself by text to self, text to text, text to world, and text to media. I can relate this book to myself because I care about the environment as much as Wangari does and I have planted trees before at our cabin. This book reminds me of a book called “A Long Walk To Water” because part of the book was about an African girl who had to walk a long way to get to water and the women in “Wangari’s Trees of Peace: A True Story From Africa” walked a long way to plant trees. This book reminds me of the world because all over the news and in books there are things about powerful African woman who made a difference. I can relate this book to the media because when I was younger, in kindergarten, there was a game that taught you about the environment and on the game you could plant a tree. As you can see, this book is related to the world in many ways.

The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau

Today in our blog we are reading a book called “The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau”, it is written and illustrated by Dan Yaccarina, I think this book is written for grades ones and twos. This book is about a man who loved to swim and invented many new things to do so. I can connect this book to myself because on spring break my dad went diving to fix the buoy we have at our cabin. I have also read a national geographic kids magazine and it was about undersea life, seeing the pictures in the book and in the magazine remind me of each book or magazine. This book reminds me of the world because when Jacques returned to one of his diving spots it was very polluted, right now pollution is a big problem all over the world. Reading this book reminded me of a documentary I watched with my family, it had video footage of a submarine going very far under water, this probably would not have happened if Jacques had not invented it. As you can see this book makes many good connections with my life.

Connections to “Bat’s Big Game”

The book we were reading to make connections in different ways was “Bat’s Big Game”, it is retold by Margaret Read MacDonald and is illustrated by Eguina Natabi. This book is about a bat who always wants to be on the winning soccer team. The connections I can make in this book is by text to text, text to self, text to world and text to media. I can connect this book to another book I read called “Little League” because it is about a small baseball player that is not that good at it and his team does not like him. I can also relate this book to myself because in school when we are playing a game in PE everybody wants to be on the best team so sometimes they try to switch teams. This book reminds me of the world because soccer is a world wide sport and people play it almost everywhere. I saw a TV show when I was really little and I can remember it was something about a kid who tried to change teams and then got in trouble. As you can see, connecting books or stories to different things can be easy.

Kindness #5

For my fifth kindness I made my brother a sandwich for school the next day. I made a tuna fish sandwich for my brother, he is usually late for school so I think it will help him for tomorrow. It made me feel good because I was making my own sandwich and I had leftover tuna so I made my brother one. I think it made him feel happy because then he could sleep in the next day without being late. Simple acts of kindness can really make someone’s day and your own.

Kindness #4

For my fourth act of kindness I made breakfast for my mom and dad. I woke up at seven thirty and started to make breakfast. I made my mom and dad toast with peanut butter, scrambled eggs and I put a bowl of grapes out. When they were eating I unloaded the dishwasher from last night and I loaded it with the dishes from the morning. I think my mom and dad appreciated the act of kindness a lot and it made them feel like they were going to have a great day. It made me feel happy because they were enjoying the food and it was fun to make because it was like working in a restaurant. I liked this act of kindness a lot and I think other people liked what I did too.

Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress

The book we are blogging about today is called Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress, the author is Christine Baldacchino and is written by Isabelle Malenfant, I think it is written for grades twos and threes. This book is about a boy named Morris who likes to wear dresses and gets bullied because he does that. I liked this book because it lets little kids know that they can be anything they feel whether its a boy or a girl. I also liked the illustrations in this book because it made everything look very elegant. Overall, I liked the book Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress.
